You still only get 16 colours on a line, and that's the restriction. By extension, 320x200x8 would translate to 640x200x4 graphics (memory-wise), and we could have 16 REAL colours in the Finder, AWGS, etc. instead of the confusing dithered palette. Of course, what would be really nice is simply to allocate 2 bytes per pixel, and you could put all 4096 colours on-screen, anywhere you want, no restrictions, and you wouldn't have to worry about palettes or SCB's.
