I don't believe that it should be an integral part of the system. Besides, Display Postscript is a better imaging model. I think that most people would rather use FrameMaker with DP rather than X. Adobe Illustrator and Quark XPress wouldn't be as good with an X front-end either. X-windows is no more an imaging model than ascii is.
