Apple has a source code sample called Sound App, that pays high attention to
human interface guidelines. It has routines to open centered Dialogs,
Windows, etc.

I believe it's on Sumex.Stanford.Edu in Apple's section there.

If you can't find it, let me know and I'll track it down for you.
