The problems you're having are exactly the same ones that plagued me last semester. Basically, INIT conflicts are causing your Finder to get trashed. You probably have some directory damage too. What worked for me was to reformat my drive, then figure out what the INIT conflicts were. I tried figuring out the INIT conflicts before reformating, but the problems persisted even with no INITs (which is why you need to reformat). It's probably a good idea to reformat the drive again, after figuring out the INIT conflicts. I can't remember which INITs caused trouble for me, since I've gotten rid of some and added others, but if you send me a list of what you're using, I may be able to help you out. - John
