I've been using GNU tar for this purpose for about a month, and it seems to be working. If I back up a tree, restore it somewhere else from floppies, diff -r produces no output on regular files. Is anyone else using GNU tar, and has anyone gotten burned doing this? Chris Paris cap@cs.cmu.edu
