Keywords: performance 68040 RAM upgrade Message-ID: <1384@actisb.UUCP> Date: 9 Feb 91 15:14:49 GMT Organization: Actis in Berlin GmbH, W. Germany Lines: 16 I've just ordered an '030 cube, and I'm looking at sensible upgrades I can add to it. Sure I'll be going for NeXTStep 2.0 as soon as they can really deliver it on OD, but how about hardware performance? I read that the original cube's speed was somewhat insatisfactory, and that the '040 is MUCH faster. I also hear that 8 MB RAM are rather a tight budget for NeXTStep, and Unix likes paging processes in and out of memory. Now for the real question: what will give me more bang for the buck: upgrading to the new board, or buying extra 16 MB RAM for a total of 24 MB? Is there anybody out there who upgraded an old cube's memory and would care to comment on the performance improvement? -- Federico Heinz (federico@actisb.uucp) -- Federico Heinz (federico@actisb.uucp)
