I purchased my first source license in 1979 (while employed at a university) and even then (Version 6) you had to execute a contract with AT&T that forbid disclosure to non-licensed individuals/organizations. At that time UNIX Source Code cost $20,000 for for-profit organizations and $230 for universities, et al. Last I heard it is now $100,000 (don't know the university price).
