Can anyone steer me to any good references concerning previous work in
the area of using a NN to classify spectra resulting from digital signal 
processing?

Suggestions for a UNIX based NN package would also be welcome 
 (generic or HP preferred, or 386 based).
I am aware of NeuralWare and Softlabs, as well as Nestor and Neilson.
