A description of the problem: I wish to link two ethernet networks - called Inside and Outside. I am happy for all Inside users to cross to outside. I want to restrict Outside users crossing to Inside, and want to check severly those that try. I am happy that a (charmingly named) Brouter based on tables of valid originating addresses would provide a level of security. If I were to be using X.25, then I am happy that I could have a SmartCard based challenge. What I **really** want is a ethernet Brouter/Bridge that at the very least issues a SmartCard challenge. Question: Does such a device exist? Is it marketed in the UK, and by whom? If only (eg) USA, where can I buy it? Replies to the undersigned, who will summarise replies.
