"filename.p" or "filename.c"). our emacs used to do this, but i think we lost something when we upgraded to SunOS 4.1.1. i've waded through virtually tons of emacs documentation, and i've found something like: "...the correspondence between file names and major mode is controlled by the variable 'auto-mode-alist'. Its value is a list in which each element has the form (regexp . mode-function)." --this from "GNU Emacs Manual, fifth edition, emacs version 18 for UNIX users, Oct. 1986" this change must take effect for all users (do i simply need to recompile?), and since i'm a relatively new user of emacs i could use some advice about where to make these changes. thanks in advance... --Travis L.
