But wait - there is relief (of a sort): ParcPlace have told me that they're going to make available 'evaluation kits' for St-80 on any of these platforms, for $200. Apparently the only difference between an evaluation kit and the Real Thing is that you can't save the image. Of course, this is a great inconvenience - but you can still file out code, so it's not deadly, especially if you just want to have a close look at St-80 before shelling out (or getting your boss to shell out :^) 3.5 grand. Note also that PPS sells St-80 to academic types for $350 on any platform. (So you could open a branch campus of the University of South North Dakota...)
