(IBM & MS-DOS compatible) It is being used to run POS (Point Of Sale) software as well as some general office accounting software( **POOR** quality acc. sftwr., but good POS sftwr.) in an auto parts store. They have two POS terminals and one terminal in the office. They are looking to add a remote terminal and printer and have been told it would cost app. $3400. It has a 40M hard disk w/about 10M used, but they are forbidden to put their own software on the disk.( violation of lease). The lease is on the software and includes support for about $900/month. They have to pay extra for any software upgrades. The only manuals supplied cover the software, not the hardware. It is currently running DOS 3.5. Anyway, The store was wanting to know about their system, how to put their own software on it and remove existing software, or if they should just give up on the machine and go with a network. The machine was bought when PC's first hit the market and was advertised as "more power- ful than a PC, without the price of a mainframe..." Anyway, any help on this subject would most appreciated. Please e-mail me directly, as the replies probably wouldn't interest the list. ************************************************************************ * s-mail-Jim Gifford ** E-MAIL-STDCJIM@UGA.BITNET OR * * c/o R.
