I've noticed that the 3c505 packet driver is pretty slow also, when doing FTP transfers over a TCP/IP with the NCSA Telnet package: it can send or receive at about 3 Kb./sec., which is about one fifth what I've seen this very same PC hardware do when using Sun's PC-NFS filesystem and driver software.
