Lines: 44 Several people have sent me corrections about my information on RCCS. The new listing on RCS is below, thanks to Paul Eggert for correcting me and supplying the additional information. RCS: Similar to SCCS. They both require a lot of scripts to make life easier on the developer. I don't have the time to create that many scripts, but several people have already written wrappers. It does have most of features that I like in DSEE, however, they are harder to use. When I get the time to switch my project over, it will probably be to this. It's out of Perdue and the source is available on the GNU distribution. A nice side effect of this is that it has been ported all over the place and is free. Paul Eggert (twinsun.com!eggert) writes: Several people have published RCS wrappers, so you don't have to write a lot of scripts if you want to reuse their work. Perhaps the best known are Brian Berliner's CVS 1.2 and Dick Grune's CVS 3.0. Berliner started from Grune's work, and they are now two different programs. I haven't tried either one yet. RCS is available via anonymous FTP from several sources: site filename archive.cs.ruu.nl /pub/GNU/rcs-5.5.tar.Z cs.purdue.edu pub/RCS/rcs.5_5.tar.Z prep.ai.mit.edu pub/gnu/rcs-5.5.tar.Z uunet.uu.net gnu/rcs-5.5.tar.Z It works best with GNU diff 1.15; look for diff-1.15.tar.Z. Look for CVS 1.2 in cvs-1.2.tar.Z at MIT. Look for CVS 3.0 at RUU (I don't know the file name). Again, please let me know if I've messed anything up or am missing any good programs. I'm always on the lookout for something else interesting. -- Rene -- Rene' Churchill rene@cadence.com Cadence Design Systems 2 Lowell Research Center Drive Experience is something you get Lowell, Mass. 01852-4995 just after you really needed it.
