     Your attributes might be going down because of a bug in the game.  If
you drop an item that increases an attribute (ex. ring of strength) and it
is not equiped, you will lose the attribute points that the item would give
you if it was equiped.  The way to avoid this is to always make sure that
an attribute increasing item is always equiped before you drop it or trade
it.  This way, the attribute points that the item gives you will be removed
instead of your characters' points.
