I humbly request assistance.

Because my wimpy 1200 baud modem takes a day and a half to upload/download
a text file of any decent size, I am looking for a utility (free or dirt
cheap) that compresses/uncompresses files on a Mac in a format compatible
with unix's "compress" and "uncompress" on my Sun workstation.

If you know of such a Mac utility or other means of accomplishing this
task, I will, of course, be most appreciative.
