Fortunately, I have the man pages, and a man -k defaults turned up the dwrite command. Other then that, I still wouldn't know how to do this. (The lpr command does mention the default variable Printer, but doesn't really say how to set it.) Oh, the command turned out to be dwrite System Printer lp or, at least that worked. What really surprises me is that this has not been asked before on comp.sys.next. This either means that noone has printers, or everyone is using a NeXTLaser printer.
