You don't need to use emTeX to use the emTeX drivers. Since
tex386 from PTI is faster than tex286 from em (and has double the
memory), there is no compelling reason to switch (I have both on
my hard disk and the only time that I use em's TeX is when I'm
working under tight memory conditions). The fault, dear Xiaofei,
lies not in the TeX but in the device driver.

No good, the Beebe DVI drivers have 8.5 x 11 portrait hard-wired
into them. And they do there own clipping. Urp.
