Summary: Where do I get the algorithm for encrypting passwords Keywords: encryption, crypt(3), C code Message-ID: <1991Feb13.133557.13938@odin.diku.dk> Date: 13 Feb 91 13:35:57 GMT Sender: news@odin.diku.dk (Netnews System) Organization: Department of Computer Science, U of Copenhagen Lines: 25 I have a colleague who would very much like to get his hands on the algorithm used by UNIX to encrypt passwords. He needs t know precisely how the "salt" is chosen and so on. Could anyone direct me to relevant articles on that subject? If C code is available somewhere which isn't covered by AT&T's license, I would to know that as well. Please answer by e-mail. Thanks!
