Windows bugs? Message-ID: <12388.27b703d0@ecs.umass.edu> Date: 11 Feb 91 20:51:27 GMT Lines: 48 Hello, I've found two new (to me, anyway) bugs in Windows, one mild, and one pretty nasty. To reproduce the mild bug, I: start windows with c:\> wt where wt is a 4dos alias for "win c:\telix\telix", which starts Windows up and runs the Telix comm program full screen. Now, I press Alt-ENTER to reduce Telix to a window. BUG: The cursor remains an hourglass and does not revert to the arrow. It does function normally, though, and eventually gets reset, after I do some things. This problem does not really affect me, I'm just mentioning it in case someone is gathering a list of known Windows bugs (maybe someone as MS :-) The nasty bug: I try loading in a 1024x768x256 bmp file as wallpaper, and get a UAE for Control Panel. If I try again, C Panel comes up with funny colors, and will give another UAE if I mess with the wallpaper. The background colors are also messed up now. I try once more, but this time to select a smaller bmp that does work, and PROGRAM MANAGER gives me a UAE and disappears. Now I'm basically unable to do anything, and have to reboot (Any keystrokes/mouse clicks give me the "buffer full" beep) The first time this happened, I was no longer able to boot off my hard disk, and had to reformat (sys'ing it didn't work). The second time I saw this, no damage was done to the hard disk. I think the first time, SHARE might not have been loaded in, though (It is a 200MB hard disk as one partition) which might have caused problems. Has anyone gotten a 1024x768x256 bmp to work as wallpaper? The bmp I used was converted from a gif file of the same specs, and works fine in paintbrush and WinGIF. My system setup: Gateway/Micronics 486/25 with 8MB RAM & 20MB swapfile Diamond SpeedSTAR (Tseng ET4000AX) 1MB video card using Diamond's 1024x768x256 driver Smartdrv.sys 2048 1024 NOTE: 800x600x256 bmp's work fine as wallpaper, and I have tiled other smaller bmp's to fill the whole 1024x768 area w/o any problems. Again, I don't NEED a solution, but am just looking to see if anyone else can confirm these bugs. Bryon Daly daly@omega.ecs.umass.edu
