Well, for a little Canadian content:

Alannah Myles
Sass Jordan   (former backup singer for "The Box" out of Montreal)
Sarah McLachlan (album "TOUCH")

The first two lean towards rock&roll, while the later is quieter
with the style similar to Enya.
And hey, back to American content, Lene Lovich came out of "retirement"
in 1989 and released an album called "March" (she took several years off
to raise kids).
