But the standard explicitly says that you can still claim conformance even if you don't provide any of the things specified in it - - all you have to do is deliver "not supported" error codes. The reason it's like that is that the "if fewer that 99.95% of Unix workstation users will be totally prevented from making progress if the system won't do it, then it would be criminal to include it" people are still getting their way.
