On the other hand ``apple.dom.ain!user'' would be re-written as ``user@apple.dom.ain''. ``user@apple'' would be cannonicalized to ``user@apple.local.domain'' if such a host exists, and then (maybe) handed off to something that tries some pseudo-domain(s) like .bitnet or .uucp if there's no host ``apple.local.domain''. -- Ed Anselmo anselmo-ed@cs.yale.edu {harvard,cmcl2}!yale!anselmo-ed
