I just ran into the problem. I did tar c - . | compress | vol 1440 /dev/ps1 and vol -u 1440 /dev/ps1 | uncompress | tar x - . and I found that tar couldn't create directories! :-( THIS MAKES TAR USELESS!!!!! You can't use tar for backup purposes, or for moving files between machines, if any subdirectories are involved. Has anybody fixed this? Or ported some other version of tar? I am trying to set up a new Minix machine, and I need a working tar.
