While my experience with war games is rather limited, I have ^been very impressed and pleased with Lords of the Rising Sun. Basically ^you are the head of one of three ruling clans in Japan. Your goal is ^to defeat/ ally with everyone, thereby ruling all Japan. ^ The graphics are superb, and the sound effects are realistic (of course). ^You have several options as to how involved you want to get. You can ^manually control a given battle, or let your subordinates do the fighting ^for you. Your character is very much an integral part of the game. If ^you are not careful, you may be killed in battle, not unlike Taro in the ^movie RAN. Nobunaga's Ambition (by Koei) is also a good japanese war game. It was the frist in the line of stategic games by Koei and you can find it in two variants. The original and the updated version. The updated version is more in line with the Bandit Kings of Ancient China or Romance of Three Kingdoms games. I'd pass on Romance of Three Kingdoms...it is amusing from the historical standpoint (if you've read the novel) but the game play is a bit too sluggish. To many generals to keep track of. Bandit Kings is a much better game IMHO. Nobunaga's Ambition (2nd ed) is a slight refinement on Bandit Kings and is also a bit better. The original Nobunaga was a very good game IMHO. It had a good balance in complexity but not so bad you need a spreadsheet to keep up. I also have Lords of the Rising Sun and I like it. I have yet to win at capturing castles in the arcade mode. About the only thing annoying about it is that you can't turn off the in between "pretty pictures". More of a nit picky complaint than anything major. ^ ^Kyle Gay | "We witness not a fallen world NT -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- // | Nigel Tzeng - STX Inc - NASA/GSFC COBE/SMEX Project \X/ | xrtnt@amarna.gsfc.nasa.gov or xrtnt@vx730.gsfc.nasa.gov | Amiga | Standard Disclaimer Applies: The opinions expressed are my own.
