Although this is mainly Jon's department, I think you are all missing a key point. The reason the archive exists at all is due to our system-administrator. The reason we have more than the disk space we need is because of our system-administrator. Is anyone in the computing center administration telling him he needs to let us keep the archive here? NO. Some fairly intense reasearch occurs here, and machine resources are not to be taken for granted. I think it's quite fair that bart was taken down to due it's abuses (intended or not). At least the archive is allowed to remain, even if it is only accessible by ftp. How many of you gathered most of your st stuff from here when you first started out? How many of you look here first for the latest PD releases? How many of you know that there isn't any where else to go for digitized sounds? Well, underlying it all should be a deep gratitude for our system-administrator. Without him, none of this would be possible in the first place. weiner -- Jeff Weiner weiner@terminator.cc.umich.edu Jeff_Weiner@ub.cc.umich.edu "As a citizen of this country, I have a right to define this function!"-A.
