Lines: 14 What you want is a tar program with compression. Tar programs are included with our PC/TCP and Sun's Lifeline (a PC-NFS option package). (I don't know whether or not tar is implemented in Beame & Whiteside's package, or in Wollongong's, or in...) I don't know whether or not Sun's tar can compress files - ours does. When writing to a tape, our tar uses rsh or rexec to execute mt on the remote system, but it can also write to a file on the remote machine.
