Can anyone give me an authoritative answer (maybe a study or
something?) on the damage of turning a machine on and off several
times a day vs. the power usage of the machine.  I know that this
question comes around every once in a while, but I'm really looking
for a "real" quote (publication, etc.) or a study.  Even a
bibliographic pointer would be great.
