If you need it, ask. This one uses the command-key as a substitute for the control key. It doesn't actually make use of the command-key on the Mac keyboard. >As far as the control key goes, on my SE/30 I just go to commands and >'add key' and type control- and it worked. This positively DOES NOT WORK with my SE/30 and standard Mac ADB keyboard. When I click the "Add" button, and type ctrl-(most characters), the Mac beeps and asks me to type another character. A few control-whatever combinations have functions that seem to be hard coded: ctrl-H does a backward delete and ctrl-I inserts a Tab. When I type these combinations after clicking "Add" in the Commands dialog box, Word *thinks* I am typing "Delete" or "Tab" -- it asks if the user wants to remap those keys. It puts the "Delete" or "Tab" keystroke symbol, rather than a control-key symbol (for example, ^H). There does not seem to be any way to explicitly incorporate the control key when defining command key sequences; this is a waste of keyboard real-estate and also prevents exact emulations of emacs, vi, or edt (my poison). The alternatives are kludgy; MacroMaker and QuickKeys do allow the control-key to be used to play macros. That WORKS, but it is not as straight-forward as creating a custom Settings file as Michael Travers did for the pseudo-Emacs settings file that he posted. -- Bill (johnston@oscar.ccm.udel.edu)
