The only way I got by this was by saving the game before entering and 
replaying till I got lucky. I later read a hint saying that there is a set 
number of drow in the village, so the more patrols you fight, the fewer 
nasties in the barn. So if you may want to wander about the village a bit. 
If you like drow, wait till you get to the caves! BTW, AlAkabar (sp?) 
bought it during one battle and my party didn't bandage him in time. He 
was a real drag on their exp. points and hadn't been any better with 
helping my party than yours. Couldn't trust him with area spells. Anyway, 
few tears were shed when they realized he was gone.
