To save money, Apple gave the Classic internal brighness control through software rather than having to worry about the dial. >>Does it display in the Control Panel on other Macs? > >Of course, where else would they put it? Of course not. The other Macs have hardare brightness controls, and no ability to control brighness through software. Brighness won't show up in an SE's Control Panel, for instance, for the same reason that the Color and Monitors cdevs don't show up: they don't do anything. >2 more notes on the Classic: > >1. Funny, then I guess I'll have to tell my neighbor to stop using it on his Classic 2/40... ;) Seriously: I'm rather certain that it does still work on an HD system. (In case you're intersted in trying it: hold down Command-Option-X-O as you boot your Classic.) >2. This would make the "My SE has a slot and the Classic > doesn't" argument moot. Especially since you can buy 68030, memory, > and ethernet cards for this "nonexistant" slot. Huh? I don't follow. You mean to say that just because the memory expansion slot on the Classic is right behind a panel above the power switch, then it's really a slot for expansion cards and Apple lied to us? I tend to believe Apple when they say that you can't put expansion cards or such in your Classic (without frying both the machine and the board). << Brian >> | Brian S.
