HELP!! Message-ID: <2790@krafla.rhi.hi.is> Date: 17 Feb 91 17:26:05 GMT Organization: University of Iceland Lines: 25 Hello all. Yesterday I decided it was time to optimize my hard disk. Of course I didn't have to back up, because DiskExpress has always worked before, and besides, I backed up last year :-) Well, the impossible happened! DiskExpress claimed it couldn't read/write one block on the disk and when I quit, the Finder didn't see any files ("30Mb used for 1667 files, none of which is present") I have run SUM and Norton and now I can't even mount the thing! It seems that the catalog tree, B-tree and volume bitmap have all gone "bad". My guess is that DiskExpress moved one(or all) of them to a bad block. Now for the questions: 1) Can I get my files back? (I had just installed FileSaver if that helps) 2) Is my disk safe? Can I just format it and pretend nothing happened, or is the disk itself damaged? Thanks very much in advance.
