I have a dead CD player with a 780nm laser diode.  Does anyone
have any fun ideas of what I could do with this thing.  Too bad
it's not visible, then I could just hook it it up and use it at a
fancy toy.

Ob. Hack:  Using HP 400D Vacuum Tube Voltmeters are bookends.
They make a unique fashion statement and are heavy enough so that
the books don't push them aside.
