Thanks for leading me to the new version of the calendar package,
however I can not get the new one working with appt.el add on package
to calendar.  Specifically 

(setq diary-display-hook 
     (list 'appt-make-list 'prepare-fancy-diary-buffer))

doesn't work. (substituting 'fancy-diary-display for 'prepare-...
doesn't do the trick either)  Can someone help me in this area?
