I prefer "Psycho Graphics". Are there any other suggestions? (It may be better to discuss the terminology well in advance than to suffer from bad mistakes, such as "distributed ray tracing", in the future :-) ) Anyway, critisism against physics as the sole base for realistic visualization sounds justified. Research in this field has heavily concentrated on illumination models and geometric modelling. Some work has been done on slightly more advanced camera models than the standard "pinhole" (f.g. distributed ray tracing). Our relationship with the camera (and the perspective projection) may well resemble the relationship of early car-designers and horse-driven carriages.
