I am having the same problems with `off-the-shelf' Minix 1.5 as I had with the demo disk. This surprised me, as I have received reports of Minix working `just fine' on similar hardware (I have an Amstrad PPC640 portable with 2 3.5" 720K drives; I heard that it works on a PPC512, which is the same, apart from the memory size). I get the same results with each boot disk - the Minix 1.5 message comes up on the top line, the menu is printed, but when I press = or u, I get the following message starting on line 2 of the screen (immediately below the Minix 1.5 message): Nonmaskable interrupt process number -9, pc = 0x0060:0x00000A70 Kernel panic: exception in kernel, mm or fs Type any key to reboot It is not a problem with the first keypress, since I can set the three parameters listed on the menu OK. (Also, there is no disk activity between pressing = and the error message.) I can probably get access to another machine to make appropriate changes and recompile a version for my portable, so if anyone can tell me what to do, I would be extremely grateful. Please, *please* mail ideas to me at walrmath@durras.anu.edu.au. Thanks in advance. -- Richard Walker (walrmath@durras.anu.edu.au) Department of Computer Science The Australian National University GPO Box 4, Canberra, ACT 2601, Australia Brought to you by Super Global Mega Corp .com
