OS/2 allows long (up to 254/255 chars) on an HPFS file system. It's wonderful! I have moved several programs from UNIX systems with no real trouble, other than preserving the names during the transfer. The HPFS is accessible from the DOS emulator in OS/2, but not from DOS 4. I heard a rumour that there is an update for DOS so that it can understand (read only?) HPFS volumes but I have no real knowledge of this. DOS utilities won't automatically handle long names on OS/2, though. Move to OS/2! It's not that expensive, it's surprisingly fast, and you get all sorts of nice goodies. -------------------------+------------------------------------------------- Bob Eager | University of Kent at Canterbury | +44 227 764000 ext 7589 -------------------------+-------------------------------------------------
