I'm trying to do some research on user definable semantics on a file system in UNIX, and I am having problems finding information. What I am trying to do is add operations to files. For example, if I wanted a file to be compacted, I would hang a compaction operation off the file and whenever the file was accessed the compaction process would be activated and the data in the file would be uncompacted, that's a read, and to write compaction would take place before the write was performed. If anyone has any information that the think might be useful, please send it my way.
