Yes, the new gifmachine (from Fish 40x) runs only under 2.0 - I'm afraid.
I myself am writing a new ppmtoilbm from the pbmplus package to run under SUNOS.
With floyd-steinberg error correction, fs dithering, median cut color map 
allociation algorithm and much more. But I'm not ready yet, it needs so
much time to test the sparc generated iffs to Amiga - I don't have a link.
