There are a number of printer types defined in the setup menu, or you can define your own. There is a serious bug in AW3.0 though. If you remove the default printer from the list of defined printers, the program will bomb. This one of a number of known serious bugs to Appleworks 3.0. There are a couple of solutions to the problem though. First, there is a Freeware patch from Beagle Bros. that will fix those bugs. I'm not sure if the patch is available via FTP, but it is available on Genie, and on a local BBS here in Toronto. There is also the Appleworks 3.0 Companion from Beagle Bros. This program fixes all the known bugs in AW3.0, and also allows you to customize a number of the menus and prompts within Appleworks. I purchased my copy of Appleworks 3.0 Companion through A2-Central for $39.95. It should be available through any dealer that handles Beagle products. As for Appleworks reading text files, EVERY version of Appleworks I have used, including Appleworks 1.0 has had that capability. It's under the create a new file for the word processor. Simply select 'from a text (ascii) file' and give Appleworks the pathname. There are some things to watch out for if you are moving files from AW 3.0 to 2.X. Appleworks 3.0 creates files that are compatible with earlier versions of Appleworks until you use one of the new features. Once you have used a new feature in an Appleworks 3.0 file, that file is no longer compatible with earlier versions of Appleworks, even if you later delete the feature you used! (be real careful of the tab key if compatibility is important!) _________________________ ________________________________________ / \ / \ | Kelly Gray | The opinions expressed in the preceding | | | message are not guaranteed to represent | | GRAY@ADMIN.HumberC.ON.CA | any form of rational thought whatsoever | \_________________________/ \_________________________________________/ Brought to you by Super Global Mega Corp .com
