Hi Brian, I use a vga moniter with a trident 8800 board with 512k memory so by
rights I should be able to do 640 * 480/256 but I am unable.After a lot of
phone calls to tech lines I managed to find that the vga moniter uses a
horizontal frequency of 31.4 khz and inorder to display 256 colours at 640 *
480 resolution you need a horizontal frequency of approximately 29 khz. so if
you use a driver for 256 colours the moniter is unable to sync to the
horizontal frequency and you get a totally unreadable screen,hope that helps
you and if anyone else knows otherwise, then please let us know as i would
certainly like to be able to use 256 colour mode.
