Well, thanks to Peter Steele (peter@aucs.acadiau.ca) for alerting me to the fact that MIPS has different sendmail binaries available, depending on the network configuration. I was running the named version and we're not using named. Thanks also to Neil Rickert (rickert@mp.cs.niu.edu) for providing some helpful tips.
