Cheyenne's backup product has been certified through Novell's Independent Manufacturers Support Program (IMSP) as compatible with the NetWare environment and with other IMSP-certified networking components on the market. The company also announced that it will include B/R Device Interface, a new backup subsystem module developed in conjunction with Cheyenne, in its core NetWare v3.11 network operating system product. B/R Device Interface works in conjunction with Novell's backup and restore server- based application, SBACKUP. B/R Device Interface allows SBACKUP to be compatible with more than 50 backup subsystems currently used by NetWare customers. In addition, Novell is licensing optional client agents from Cheyenne that allow SBACKUP to archive information residing on DOS, Windows, OS/2 and UNIX desktop sytems. These client agents are provided in NetWare B/R Client Services v1.0, an optional product available in March, 1991. "Cheyenne has been among the leaders in archival technology since 1988," said John Edwards, Novell product line manager for enterprise network operating systems. "Close cooperation between the two companies has resulted in enhanced backup and restore capabilities, tightly coupled with NetWare's client/server architecture, creating efficient, scalable and cost-effective archiving solutions for NetWare customers."
