To read and write a character from a socket takes about 1ms each. To write an integer takes about 1ms, but to read an integer takes about 180ms. My question is: Why does it take so long time to read an integer from a socket? Has it something to do with setting up the socket? The processes communicates via a stream-socket connection between two Sparcstations and the underlying protocol is TCP. I don't know wery much about network programming so I would really appreciate if somebody could give me a clue.
