I have a question about twocolumn format in LaTeX.

I wanted to make a portion of my one column document, twocolumn.  The 
second column in my text is just a continuation of first column.  Since 
\clearpage is default in column change, after \twocolumn command, it 
clears out the page and starts two column format.  I want it in the same page.  
\nopagebreak command does not help. 

I would appreciate very much if anybody could give suggestion in this 
regard.
