If you are willing to accept something a bit lighter, look up the "Session Manager" posting I made over the winter in alt.sources. I have compiled it on a PS/2 and a S/6000 with good results. It has one advantage over "screen" and "wm" in that it doesn't emulate any kind of terminal, so it is more efficient.
