The three computers are An A3000UX, an A3000 and an A2000 with GVP 33 MHz 68030. I have installed the TCP/IP software on all the machines. I have modified the INET:db/hosts file in the two AmigaDos machines and the /ect/hosts file on the A3000UX so they all have the same list of machine names and internet numbers. If I execute the startnet script on the AmigaDos machines I can then ping to the other machines and I get all the packets returned. However, if I try to ping from the Unix box I get "amiga2 not responding" or something along those lines. If I boot the same A3000UX with AmigaDos2.0 and use PING then everything seems to work. Now if I try to FTP to another machine, it asks for the UserName and the Password and wont let me in. I assume that the accounts have to be set-up in the PASSWRDS file on the remote system, but I can't figure out how to create one, the passwords listed in the PASSWRD file are incrypted, so I can't try them, I tried hitting "RETURN" for one of the accounts that had no password but that didn't work either. I am assuming that the hardware (thin wire) is set up since the PING seems to work under AmigaDos, however I obviously have some problems with my software set-up, particuliarly under Unix. Is there something you have to do equivelent to executing the StartNet script under AmigaDos for Unix? I am running in init 3 mode (I have set this in the default file). What am I missing on the AmigaDos side as far as set-up? Could some one send me an example of a two or three machine network and what the inet.config and hosts files should look like, shouldn't the internet address for the machine appear in the .config file somewhere (not just the name)? Shouldn't the internet address match the hard coded address of the eithernet card? Are there any other files that need to be modified? Are ultimate goal is to use the A3000UX as a file server as well as be able to share files. Finally, when I ping from one AmigaDos machine to the other the output lists only one internet number repeating, other and over, this also happens if I ping from one machine to itself. if I ping from the AmigaDos machine to the A3000UX the output alternates between two internet addresses. These internet addresses don't correspond to the internet of the targeted machine as listed in the hosts file. Further, once I have executed startnet script on one machine, I can successfully ping from that machine even to one which is turned off, although when the other machine is turned off, the internet number that ping repeats is different then if the traget machine is on. I would greatly appreciate anyones advice about any part of this. -Jason- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jason Goldberg UUCP: ucsd!serene!cbmami!jason Del Mar, CA Brought to you by Super Global Mega Corp .com
