Hello, My name is Calvin Cliff and I'm a programmer/analyst for the UCLA Dept of Astronomy and this is the second message I'm writting in reference to a problem I'm having running Xwindow R4 on our Sun 3/260 under OS 4.0.1. I'm not sure if my last mail message got through. This past weekend, I reinstalled Xwindows R4 and tried once again to get it working. It had been installed previously about 8 months ago and worked fine until two weeks ago. I used the xinit command and directly referenced the server file Xsun. I checked to make sure that the makefiles for the installation had the correct operating system Majorversion and Minorversion settings. It was installed exaltly the same way as before but it still doesn't work. The xinit -- /usr/bin/X11/Xsun :0 command only leaves the terminal in a hangup state. I check the /tmp/.X11-unix/X0= file to make sure that it exists. I tried deleting it and then do xinit again so that a new X0= file is created. I also tried to reboot the file server were Xwindows is installed and I have used ldconfig a couple of time. Have you ever had this problem before? Do I need to use config to rebuild my system configuration files? Are there any special device files that I should check to see that I have in order to run Xwindows? If you could provide any hints I would be very appreciative. Thanks very much. cal (cliff@trifid.astro.ucla.edu cliff::trifid (213) 206-8596 ) % ====== Internet headers and postmarks (see DECWRL::GATEWAY.DOC) ====== Received: by decpa.pa.dec.com; id AA07408; Thu, 21 Feb 91 05:53:03 -0800 Received: by uucp-gw-1.pa.dec.com; id AA21696; Tue, 19 Feb 91 22:34:11 -0800 Received: by uucp-gw-1.pa.dec.com; id AA21689; Tue, 19 Feb 91 22:34:04 -0800 Received: by expo.lcs.mit.edu; Tue, 19 Feb 91 19:23:18 EST Received: from trifid.astro.ucla.edu by expo.lcs.mit.edu; Tue, 19 Feb 91 19:23:02 EST Received: by trifid.astro.ucla.edu (5.57/Ultrix3.0-C) id AA21280; Tue, 19 Feb 91 16:22:36 -0800 Message-Id: <9102200022.AA21280@trifid.astro.ucla.edu> To: xpert@expo.lcs.mit.edu Subject: Xwindow problem.
