If I had to do the same thing for a desk top system my task would be really easy: I would buy the motherboard, case, drives, display and power supply that I need and put a system together. Unfortunately in the laptop world things are a lot more complicated since there doesn't seem to be any standards. The components of different vendors don't match and you can't just put a system together by buying the parts. So I'm faced with either buying a low cost laptop and adapting it to my needs or buying parts and trying to put a system together. I looked into that and found out several vendors of pc-xt type of embeded systems that I could use as motherboards. I still have to figure out how to get the flat panel display, and power supply and get it all to work together. Any ideas, or hints are welcome.
