I'm not sure what you mean by "journaled," but I assume you're talking about the digests which take several news postings and put them into one E-mail message. If that's what you mean, see the "digest" package in volume 1 of the comp.sources.unix archive and the "maildigest" package in volume 6 of the same archive.
